Description
My idea of gender equality.
I draw inspiration from India’s tradition and culture which has been witness to many legends, stories and social practices that portray equal participation of both men and women in the path of progress and prosperity. Ranging from arts to battlefield to literature the participation from both men and women were in all areas of vocation were prevalent. This is why gender equality was never a topic of controversy and criticism as both men and women understood their individual role in society.
The stereotypes of gender-based activities arrived much later in our civilization due to foreign influences on our culture. Starting from the portrayal of Shiva and Sakthi being equals there are numerous examples such as Ram, Krishna, Shabari, Rani, Lakshmi Bai have been spoken and written about.
In recent times we have witnessed women breaking the stereotypes are leading the way in the areas of business, science and law & order which were pre-dominantly led my men.
We have also observed men breaking the stereotypes and proving themselves in the areas of hospitality, culinary arts, grooming arts, and entertainment which were otherwise considered the areas of expertise for women.
Through my painting I wanted to express these changing trends where both men and women are breaking the perceived boundaries of the mind and leveling the playground again.
